Story & symbolism
Tips: In order to prevent rain, the umbrella surface is brushed with natural tung oil, the new umbrella will have the smell of tung oil, and it needs to be dried in a ventilated place for 2-3 days after receiving the goods!
Craftsmanship:
Each oil-paper umbrella is meticulously crafted using the traditional Fully-pieced Technique — a recognized form of Intangible Cultural Heritage. This technique refers to the comprehensive hand-threading of every single bamboo rib, from the top crown of the umbrella all the way to the bottom joint. The silk or cotton thread is wound densely and continuously, ensuring that all ribs are uniformly secured to the umbrella surface, forming a tightly integrated, reinforced structure.
Unlike half-pieced technique, the Fully-pieced Technique does not leave any ribs exposed or loosely connected. It demands an exceptionally high level of patience and precision, often requiring several times more hours of manual labor. The result is a perfectly balanced umbrella that opens and closes smoothly, resists deformation from wind and moisture, and retains its refined shape over time.
This all-over stitching not only enhances durability but also conveys the artisan’s pursuit of structural integrity and aesthetic harmony — a true embodiment of traditional Chinese craftsmanship at its finest.
